Clinical data with up to 5 years of follow-up show success rates of 93-98%. This is much higher than surgical ligation and stripping. It is predicted that, based on its superior efficacy and lower morbidity, endovenous laser treatment will soon become the new ‘gold standard’.

EVLT, like all minimally invasive procedures, can potentially cause some slight bruising, which commonly disappears within the first few weeks. With EVLT, you will feel a delayed tightness (or “pulling” sensation) 4-7 days after laser treatment which is normal and expected following a successful treatment.

Since varicose and spider veins are a chronic condition, new veins will likely appear over time. Most people can remain “vein free” by returning for touch-up visits every couple of years.

If varicose veins appear after vein stripping surgery, an ultrasound consultation with Dr. Kase can diagnose if any residual saphenous vein is still present. If it is, endovenous laser therapy can be performed.

Treatment of spider veins is often considered “cosmetic” and may not be covered by your health insurance. However, the diagnosis and treatment of significant health problems due to diseased veins are covered by most insurance companies if the problem is deemed “medically necessary.” An initial evaluation will be done to determine if your vein disorder is causing health problems or if it is strictly cosmetic.
