POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of radiologists and Lead MRI Technologist, the MRI Technologist will perform MRI procedures according to the Radiology Departments philosophy, goals, policies and procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs MRI scan as ordered: obtains patient history, explains standard procedures and addresses patient concerns.
Positions patients and operates MRI Scanner to produce the most reliable and informational data.
Performs butterfly injections.
Recognizes signs and symptoms of infiltration.
Observes patient for any unusual reactions or events.
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Operates MRI Scanner as directed.
Recognizes the needs of patients according to their age group and the ability to modify care according to the patient’s age.
Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
Transports patients to the procedure room, prepares and maintains the room for daily activities.
Responsible for ensuring that an accurate database of clinical and information is maintained in the Radiology Information System.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in education programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
Performs daily quality control checks on MRI Scanner equipment.
Maintains records of examination date and other pertinent information on patients and equipment.
Orders/requests supplies as necessary to keep materials on hand at all times.
Performs MRI scans with proper credentials.
Attends meetings as required.
Performs radiographic examinations.
Performs a variety of tasks assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES
Thorough knowledge of current procedures and protocols used in the performance of magnetic resonance imaging for diagnostic purposes; thorough knowledge of the required safety precautions in the operation and use of equipment; thorough knowledge of human anatomy and the physics of Magnetic Resonance Imaging; skill in the operation and use of MRI equipment; skill in the operation and minor repair of complex MRI equipment; ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written direction; ability to supervise, direct and instruct MR staff in the implementation of new applications; ability to handle sick and injured patients properly and arrange for their transfer down to MRI from hospital units; ability to manage the deployment of a mobile MRI unit; thoroughness, reliability, good judgement, physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
QUALIFIATIONS
Must be certified by and maintain current registration with The American Registry of Radiologic Technicians (ARRT) in the field of Magnetic Resonance Imaging. BLS Certification. Ideally a minimum of 2-5 years in the field. Be in possession of a valid license, issued by the Connecticut Health Department, as a Radiologic Technologist in the field of Diagnostic Radiography.
Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of radiologists and Lead MRI Technologist, the MRI Technologist Trainee will perform MRI procedures according to the Radiology Departments philosophy, goals, policies and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Lead MRI Technologist and Radiologists, is instructed and mentored by senior staff on a wide variety of technical and professional duties utilizing complex imaging equipment to produce quality MRI images as requested for subsequent interpretation by the radiologist.
All duties are performed according to departmental and organizational policies and procedures and demonstrates exceptional service excellence in all interactions.
Efficiently follows routine protocols, demonstrates independent judgment, and has minimal inactive scanner utilization.
Follows routine protocols and refers to the referring doctor's exam requisition to ensure the correct exam is performed.
Performs quality and compassionate patient care in order to ensure patient cooperation, safety, and satisfaction.
Demonstrates 100% accuracy on safety screening.
Thoroughly explains the procedure to the patient and offers them emotional support to endure and complete the exam.
Performs various record keeping, customer service functions to ensure exam charges are properly billed and communicates feedback in order to ensure that the goals of the department are met and operations run efficiently.
Staff will present themselves in a friendly and courteous manner
Qualifications:
ARRT certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is required.
CT State License required.
Minimum one year of clinical experience required and must demonstrate competency performing routine MRI exams within six months of commencement of the MRI training program.
Must pursue MRI board certification and completely by one year.
Average knowledge base of cross sectional anatomy, highly developed organizational skills, and timely and effective communication skills is required.
